How it works
From camera roll to print-ready in three steps.
Here's exactly what eikoro does with your photo — and what it deliberately doesn't do.
Upload a photo
Pick a recent photo. The browser reads it locally — nothing is uploaded.
2Align & whiten
Face and eye landmarks place your head inside the spec's frame; the background is cleaned up.
3Export & print
Download the print-ready JPG and print sheets, then print at home or at a lab.
Upload a photo
Choose a photo from your camera roll or computer. The file is read directly by the page and is not uploaded to a server. A recent, straight-on photo in even light gives the cleanest result — if you don't have one, the editor tells you what to fix rather than quietly producing a file that will be rejected.
- JPG or PNG. Phone photos are usually more than enough resolution.
- Processed locally. The file stays in the tab from picker to export.
- Swap and retake. Upload a different photo at any time before you pay.
Align and whiten
The editor finds your face and eyes, measures head position, and places your head inside the head-height band the spec requires. Then it replaces the background with the plain color your document asks for — white, light grey, or off-white — and shows you the result at print resolution. You can nudge the crop if you want it exact.
- Face and eye alignment instead of eyeballing a crop.
- Background replacement to the spec's plain color.
- Watermarked preview download so you can check before paying.
Export and print
Pay $4.99 once to remove the watermark and download the print-ready files: a JPG at 300 or 600 DPI cropped to your spec, a 4 × 6 in sheet, and an A4 sheet. Dashed cut guides make the trim straight, and the sheet carries a print-at-100% note for the lab. Print at home on photo paper, or upload the JPG to a lab.
- 300/600 DPI JPG — the resolution your spec requires.
- Two sheet sizes with cut guides, ready for a home printer.
- One-time price. No subscription, no account, no watermark.
Before you start
What makes a good source photo.
eikoro aligns and crops, but it starts with the photo you give it. These habits save retakes.
Do
- Face the camera straight-on, both eyes open, neutral expression.
- Use even, indirect light — a window on a cloudy day works well.
- Stand a step away from a plain wall so there's no shadow behind you.
- Use a recent photo: within 6 months, or whatever your authority requires.
- Take the photo at eye level; ask someone to hold the phone if you can.
Don't
- Don't use a selfie taken at an angle or from below.
- Don't apply filters, beauty mode, or heavy skin smoothing.
- Don't stand in front of a busy background or a doorframe.
- Don't wear a hat, glasses, or a uniform unless the authority allows it.
- Don't upload a screenshot of a photo, or a photo of a printed photo.
Under the hood
What happens inside the browser.
No mystery servers. Four local steps, all running in the tab you're looking at.
Read the file
The browser loads the image into memory. No network request carries your photo off the page.
Find the face
A face model runs in WebAssembly and returns landmarks for the eyes, chin, crown, and ears.
Fit the frame
The landmarks are measured against the spec's head-height band and eye line, then the crop is applied.
Build the export
Background matting, whitening, resolution-matched resampling, and the print-sheet layout are computed on your device.
Specs
Specs are data, not guesses.
Every document is stored as a spec: size in millimetres and inches, pixels at the spec's DPI, head-height band, background color, and notes. When a government changes a rule, the spec changes — not the tool.
| Document | Size | Output pixels | Head height |
|---|---|---|---|
| US passport | 2 × 2 in · 51 × 51 mm | 600 × 600 px @ 300 DPI | 50–69% |
| UK passport | 35 × 45 mm | 827 × 1063 px @ 600 DPI | 64–76% |
| Canada passport | 50 × 70 mm | 591 × 827 px @ 300 DPI | 44–52% |
| Schengen visa | 35 × 45 mm | 413 × 531 px @ 300 DPI | 71–80% |
| China visa | 33 × 48 mm | 390 × 567 px @ 300 DPI | 58–69% |
Values above are examples from the current spec set. Always confirm the current rule with your issuing authority before you apply. Browse the country list.
Why browser-only
Why browser-only is the point.
A passport photo is one of the most sensitive images you can hand over: full face, unedited, tied to an identity document. Most online photo tools upload it, process it on a server, and keep it for some period. eikoro avoids that entire category of risk by never building an upload endpoint.
- No upload endpoint to breach, and no image-retention question to answer.
- You can verify it yourself in your browser's network tab.
- No account, so there is no profile to link a photo to.
The trade-off: processing uses your device's CPU, so a very old phone will take longer. That trade is worth it for a document photo.
About
About this project.
eikoro is built and supported by one developer. No growth team, no data business, no affiliate upsells. The product does one job: turn a phone photo into a print-ready file that fits the published spec. If something is wrong — a spec, a file, a refund — email support@eikoro.com and a human will read it.
